The Swiss federal system is a unique model in terms of organizing power and dividing it into multiple levels of government. This system combines political and cultural pluralism within a framework of unity and stability. Swiss federalism is based on the principle of sharing powers between the federal government and the cantons (provinces), which are political administrative units that enjoy a high degree of self-government. This system is based on respect for the country’s diverse linguistic, cultural, and religious characteristics, which has contributed to building a democratic, citizen-based state with strong institutions capable of adapting to both internal and external challenges. Through this organization, Switzerland provides a successful and strong example of balance in the relationship between centralization and decentralization by granting the cantons broad freedom to manage internal affairs within the framework of the federal constitution.
