The Struggle for Power in Sudan after 2018 and Its Future Prospects

Abstract

This study addresses the power struggle in Sudan after 2018, explaining the reasons that contributed to fueling the conflict and the motives that led to its escalation and transformation into the current form, which took the form of a large-scale armed conflict that extended to all cities of Sudan. The importance of the study lies in the fact that it analyzes and investigates the phenomenon of the power struggle in Sudan, which is a model of the recurring conflicts in African countries that have led to serious repercussions, which have negatively affected the political, social and economic conditions, while explaining the nature of the relationship between the military and civilian forces to understand the nature of what is happening in Sudan in terms of coups. The research was addressed in three demands; the first requirement:  The roots of military coups in Sudan and their causes. The second requirement addressed the coup in Sudan in 2019 and the division of the military establishment into two camps. The third requirement addressed the future prospects of the situation in Sudan. The research concluded through the findings that there is a continuous dynamic used in the state of Sudan to change power, represented by military coups. This is a result of the absence of peaceful dialogue, as well as the weakness of state institutions. There must be a restructuring of the military and civilian institutions, and all of them must be subject to clear laws by a central authority that has legitimacy and enjoys popular support.
